How To Reset the Lights on a Honda
There are a lot of benefits to doing simple car maintenance yourself rather than always taking it into a professional. Not every little thing needs to be professionally done, and refraining from doing this will save you a lot of time and money. Doing car maintenance yourself does require a little more knowledge, however—especially when it comes to integral parts of your car. One of the key things you will need to know is how to reset your lights after the work is done. Let’s take a look at how to reset the lights on a Honda to see how easy the process is.
Step 1: Turn the Ignition To Run
This should be self-explanatory, but you want your car to be on before you try to reset the lights. However, this does not mean that you want your car running. Turn your key to one notch before you would normally hold it to get your car running. You’ll know you’ve got it right because the lights will light up on your dashboard.
Step 2: Find the Right Display
Once your car is running (but not on fully), you are going to want to press the Select or Reset button which will either be on your steering wheel or your dashboard. Continue pressing the button or knob until you find the option related to the light you want to turn off. It could be “Engine Oil Life” or “Engine Oil Indicator %” if you are trying to turn off the check engine light, for example.
Step 3: Wait for the Blink
Hold down the Select or Reset button for at least 10 seconds. The light you’ve chosen to reset should begin to blink. Once it turns off, turn off your vehicle completely and remove the keys from the ignition. Wait about one full minute, and then start your Honda up again to make sure that the lights are no longer illuminated.
