The Most Useful Off-Road Modifications for Your Car

When you first get into off-roading, you very quickly realize how much of its own world it really is. The culture is completely different to other car-related hobbies. You’ll also learn very quickly how much better your car can be for off-roading—once you add a few tune ups. You can get the most out of your off-roading vehicle with some modifications. Here are some of the most useful off-road modifications for your car.

Off-Road Tires

Perhaps the number one most useful modification for off-road vehicles is getting proper off-roading tires. Off-roading tires have much deeper treads than your average tires, making them perfect for gripping difficult surfaces. Anything from gravel, dirt, mud, and ice are easier to handle when you’ve got a good set of tires on your vehicle.

Lift Kits

If the terrain you’ll trek over is particularly rough, a lift kit can be immensely useful. This will raise up the body of your vehicle, allowing for more ground clearance. If the trails you’re headed out on have a lot of rocky areas or uneven terrain, a lift kit ensures your car’s sensitive underbelly won’t get damaged.

Improved Suspension

To go along with your lift kit, improving your car’s suspension will make it even more effective on uneven terrain. It also has the added bonus of smoothing out the feeling of the drive on the driver, since more of the impact will be absorbed by the suspension system rather than the car’s body. If you don’t have good suspension on your vehicle, you’re going to be in for a bumpy and unpleasant ride.

Body Protection

At some point, it’s inevitable that you’ll slide up against something or you’ll overestimate your amount of ground clearance. Having proper body protection can help to limit the amount of real damage your vehicle takes while out on the trail. Body protection, such as a skid plate, really helps in the long run by decreasing the need for constant repairs and tune ups.

Winch

Heading out into some seriously muddy terrain? Is a thunderstorm on the horizon for your off-roading trip? You should probably have a winch attached to your vehicle, just to be safe. Winches give you a cable you can tie to other things in the environment. Retracting this cable will help pull you out of sticky situation such as deep mud.
